CollegePlus! has been telling families for years that almost anyone, regardless of their age, can take and pass CLEP exams. Now, nine year old Ashley Medlock of Paris, TN has proven us right.
Ashley passed the Western Civilization I CLEP exam earlier this winter after taking about five months to study for the test, according to a recent article in the Paris Post Intelligencer.
As we at CollegePlus! read the article, some phrases we coined appeared in the piece, like Ashley's ability to "earn a bachelor's degree by age 18" and the fact that her parents say she'll be "combining high school and college."
So we did a little fact checking.
It turns out the Medlocks requested information on accelerated distance learning from CollegePlus! earlier this year.
We're happy for Ashley's early success but realize that her situation is exceptional since statistics show that CLEP exams are extremely difficult to pass without guidance from experienced coaches. While some exams have a mere 13% pass rate, CollegePlus! students typically pass CLEPs more than 90% of the time.
CollegePlus! students attribute their extremely high pass rate directly to the mentoring they receive from their CollegePlus! coach.
