Landing an internship that is specific to your major will increase your chances of getting the job you want after college graduation. Not only will you have book knowledge of your field of study but you will have hands-on experience that will give you a competitive edge. In addition, internships offer the opportunity for the development of leadership skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, time management, and discipline. Another important part of internships are letters of recommendation.

When applying for internships, it’s important to realize that not all internships are created equal. Some organizations pay interns hourly, some with stipends, and others not at all. Some internships offer the academic credits as a reward for interns. It’s important to check with your academic institution to make sure your internship is tailored for college credit.
