The American education system is waiting for a hero.
With schools facing budget cuts, over-crowding, sky-rocketing dropout rates, and an increase of children dealing with harsh social issues, it is a challenge for students to receive the education they've been promised. The US used to be a world leader in education but now ranks 20th in graduation rates. Students are dropping out at an average of 1.2 million per year. That's entire metropolitan areas of undereducated Americans.
Director Davis Gugginheim explores the disturbing education problems in his latest film, Waiting for "Superman". The film follows five children whose dreams and lives are tied up in the crumbling education system. Each of them is waiting for "Superman" - a hero to come and save the school system.
