On Campus Violence On the Rise

Posted on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 | 0 comments | Permalink |

While the ornate buildings and scenic landscapes on college campuses may appear the picture of safety and security, think again.

According to a recent survey in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, violence on college campuses is on the rise. 45% of students report that they have been the victim of some form of violence, whether physical, sexual or emotional, the survey said. While many parents may feel their children are safe at college, this illusion is quickly fading.

With the growing number of students enjoying the benefits of college through distance learning, they have much less to fear than fellow students who don't have their best interest in mind.

College Academia 15 to 1 Democrat

In an election year, the way citizens vote is crucial to the direction of the nation. And academia enjoys a favored position in guiding young people as they develop their views about the world, society, and government.

We recently came across a survey from several years ago that spells out the political leanings of college six disciplines in the social sciences. The result? In one department at the universities surveyed, Democrats outnumbered Republicans 30.2 to 1. The average of all six ratios is 15 to 1 in favor of Democrats.

While many celebrate the supposed diversity on today's college campuses, the evidence states just the opposite.

Get Radical With Your Education!

Life without high school.

This is a radical thought for many Americans who have never been introduced to any alternatives to the conveyor belt schooling system that forms the basis of public school methodology here in the US. Sadly, this system has spilled over into private school and homeschooling as well. But it wasn't always this way in America! Many of the Founding Fathers completely bypassed high school as they pursued a mentor-based education that prepared them for real life.

Families can do the same for their kids today! CollegePlus! national speaker Woody Robertson lays out a plan that just about any family can use to combine high school and college.

Homeschooling families already think outside the education box. Now find out how hundreds of families are taking it a step further! The session is called "A Bachelor’s Degree by 18: You can do it too!" and is fifth on the list of audio sessions on the CollegePlus! Audio Download page. Feel free to check Woody's other sessions as well.

The Government Strikes Again

Yet another education bill is being considered in the US legislature and, yet again, it's a stab in the dark at helping students achieve their higher education plans. Will the bill reduce the student's tuition burden or potential debt load? Of course not. So what will it do? Create a "good-guys list" of universities that make their tuition and expense schedule accessible to students, according to a Chicago Tribune article. Big deal. Students already have access to a plethora of guides that spell this information out. Maybe the government should start subsidizing truly groundbreaking higher education alternatives like CollegePlus!

Diploma Mill Gets Busted

Just this week the Spokesman Review, a local newspaper in Spokane, WA, published a list of contacts who used a now defunct diploma mill to get a high school diploma or a bachelor’s or graduate degree. The complete list contains more than 10,000 names. Several of the people who ran the mill are now under investigation and some have been sentenced to prison. Not only were several of the supposed degree-granting institutions nonexistent, the mill's owners printed diplomas from real universities like Texas A&M and George Washington University.

A diploma mill has been defined as a company that prints genuine-looking degrees for people who want a degree without putting the time and effort to study for a degree. This particular mill’s underhanded means for obtaining a bachelor’s degree begs an obvious question: Is CollegePlus! a diploma mill since it isn’t an accredited college?

Definitely not! CollegePlus! makes it clear that it is a third party coaching program that shows students how they can avoid lengthy coursework to complete their fully-accredited bachelor's degrees from recognized institutions of higher learning. CollegePlus! has never churned out diplomas from real or nonexistent universities like diploma mills have.

Students in the CollegePlus! program typically complete their regionally-accredited bachelor’s degrees in about two years. Sometimes they can do it in less time but the whole degree process still takes hundred or even thousands of hours of study. CollegePlus! is a program that requires a high level of motivation and dedication to complete a tangible goal. No, CollegePlus! is no diploma mill.
